By Benjamin Flowers: The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) is reportedly awaiting approval from the World Health Organization before utilizing a batch of COVID-19 vaccines that were recently donated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat explained that the vaccines donated by the UAE are a brand from China that is still awaiting WHO approval, despite already being rolled out in other countries. Chebat also noted that the donation did not receive a ceremony as the vaccines arrived in-country during Easter Break.
He stressed that the government is confident the Chinese vaccine will receive WHO approval and when that happens the government will make an official announcement, so Belizeans will have all the facts to help make an informed decision about taking the shot.
