News about a COVID-19 vaccine for kids 5 to 11 should be coming out just before Halloween, but the shots won’t be rolled out until after the holiday. So what is and isn’t safe to do when the delta variant is one of the spooks of the season?
CDC leaders are advising that outside trick or treating is fine, just to avoid crowds. The agency also recommends incorporating a mask into costumes for crowded situations. The CDC’s director is also saying to keep Halloween parties outside.
Second grader Caitlyn Ehrenberg has been ready for Halloween pretty much since last year. While she has her outfits planned out, her mom Megan has a plan for healthy trick or treating.
“We’re going to go in a small group, and most of it’s outside so we’ll let them run around without the masks but when they’re in crowded areas with groups of kids or going up to the door, they’re be wearing masks,” said Megan.
Another thing the CDC knows this year that it didn’t in 2020: surface transmission isn’t a big spreader of the coronavirus, so people are safe picking out pumpkins or grabbing candy.
