Stay-at-home orders will be enforced in the local government area of Lismore from today until October 11 as concerns grow over “an increased COVID-19 public health risk”.
NSW Health is also “closely monitoring” the situation in Cowra, Muswellbrook and Port Macquarie, with further advice coming on action that could be taken there later today.
NSW now has 67.1 per cent of people aged 16 and over fully vaccinated and 88.4 per cent with their first dose of the COVID vaccine.
Today’s six deaths include three women and three men, taking the state’s total dead in this outbreak to 378.
In total, there have been 438 COVID-related deaths in NSW since the start of the pandemic.
One of the six deceased was aged in their 40s, three in their 60s, one in their 70s, and one in their 90s.
“We need to make sure that we’re all protecting our communities and … we’ve got still quite large numbers of COVID in the community.
“Please take care of each other, please follow the rules to help protect us all.”
In Greater Sydney, most of the new cases were detected in Liverpool, Wellington, Doonside, Plumpton, Bankstown, Granville, Wollongong, Blacktown, Fairfield, Caringbah and Queanbeyan.
In the regions, Illawarra Shoalhaven area reported 77 new cases, Hunter-New England 59 cases and 32 in the Central Coast.
Businesses face COVID punishments
Penalties of $5000 have been announced for businesses which don’t take “reasonable steps” to keep out unvaccinated customers.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard also urged any staff members who had to deal with abuse over the issue to contact police.
Mr Hazzard yesterday urged people to continue to conform to health rules and not to “ruin” NSW’s progress in managing the Delta outbreak.
There were 10 deaths recorded yesterday, while 15 were recorded on Friday, making it NSW’s deadliest day of the pandemic.
The state continues to edge towards the 70 per cent vaccination mark that will mark the first stage of re-opening.
