Connecticut reported 4,514 new cases of coronavirus in the week ending Sunday, from 4,424 the week before, of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Connecticut ranked 43rd among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week, coronavirus cases in the United States decreased 0.7% from the week before, with 730,572 cases reported. With 1.07% of the country’s population, Connecticut had 0.62% of the country’s cases in the last week. Across the country, 15 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.
New London County reported 361 cases and one death in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 344 cases and three deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 61,312 cases and 676 deaths.
Windham County reported 96 cases and one death in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 135 cases and two deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 27,747 cases and 309 deaths.

Within Connecticut, the worst weekly outbreaks on a per-person basis were in Fairfield County with 137 cases per 100,000 per week; New London County with 136; and New Haven County with 130. The Centers for Disease Control says high levels of community transmission begin at 100 cases per 100,000 per week.
Adding the most new cases overall were Fairfield County, with 1,296 cases; New Haven County, with 1,107 cases; and Hartford County, with 1,085. Weekly case counts rose in three counties from the previous week. The worst increases from the prior week’s pace were in Fairfield, New Haven and New London counties.

Across Connecticut, cases fell in five counties, with the best declines in Hartford County, with 1,085 cases from 1,333 a week earlier; in Windham County, with 96 cases from 135; and in Middlesex County, with 209 cases from 247.
In Connecticut, 15 people were reported dead of COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. In the week before that, 27 people were reported dead.
A total of 820,870 people in Connecticut have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 11,015 people have died from the disease, Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the United States 86,246,101 people have tested positive and 1,013,413 people have died.

Hospitals in 29 states reported more COVID-19 patients than a week earlier, while hospitals in 25 states had more COVID-19 patients in intensive-care beds.
