In her IETA Bio video, IETA alumna Natalia Cales, MSc, describes her experience leveraging her policy and management background to work as the Acting Associate Director for Operations and, at times, the Acting Deputy Country Director, with CDC’s office in Lusaka, Zambia. An Executive Officer with the HHS Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs, Natalia welcomed the opportunity to work with the Locally Employed Staff to complete some major capital improvement projects. She explains that the death of her mother from AIDS in 2006—and realizing that there were others in the world who also had lost loved ones to the disease—drove her desire to apply to the IETA program stating, “this is where my professional and my personal background could be able to merge.” Natalia states that IETA changed her life forever and fueled her passion to work internationally.
