AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control said Tuesday that 454 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected across the state since Saturday, and that another five Mainers have died after contracting the illness, bringing the statewide death toll so far to 2,200.
The new cases bring the total number of cases in the state since March of 2020 to 235,293. The Maine CDC also reported that there have been 74,518 breakthrough cases so far.
The latest Maine CDC COVID-19 statistics indicate a total of 4,540 Mainers have required hospitalization to treat the virus since March of 2020.
As of Monday, 96 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 15 were being treated in intensive care units, while four people were on ventilators.
Also as of Monday, 2,549,793 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered around the state. Of those, 963,410 were first doses, 994, 391 were final doses, and 591,992 were boosters, the Maine CDC said.
