AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday that 452 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected across the state since Saturday and that 47 additional deaths have been reported in connection with the illness, bringing the statewide death toll so far to 2,269.
The new cases bring the statewide since the pandemic began to 238,169, according to state health officials.
The 47 additional COVID-related deaths included in Tuesday’s update were identified by a vital records review. The earliest of those deaths occurred in January, according to Maine CDC spokesman Robert Long.
The Maine CDC also reported that there have been 77,791 breakthrough cases as of Monday.
The latest Maine CDC COVID-19 statistics indicate a total of 4,619 Mainers have required hospitalization to treat the virus since March of 2020.
As of Monday, 97 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 24 were being treated in intensive care units, and three people were on ventilators.
Also as of Monday, 2,592,503 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered around the state. Of those, 965,209 were first doses, 1,029,773 were final doses, and 597,251 were boosters, the Maine CDC said.
