Maine CDC reports 191 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths

AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control said Wednesday that 191 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected across the state and that two more Mainers have died after contracting the illness, bringing the statewide death toll so far to 2,190.

The new cases bring the total number of cases in the state since March of 2020 to 234,159. The Maine CDC also reported that there have been 73,114 breakthrough cases as of March 18.

The latest Maine CDC COVID-19 statistics indicate a total of 4,512 Mainers have required hospitalization to treat the virus since March of 2020.

As of Tuesday, 91 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 19 were being treated in intensive care units, while nine people were on ventilators.

Also as of Tuesday, 2,545,563 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered around the state. Of those, 962,730 were first doses, 993,062 were final doses, and 589,771 were boosters, the Maine CDC said.
