Luna County reported 89 additional COVID-19 cases this week

New Mexico reported 6,821 new cases of coronavirus in the week ending Sunday, from 6,717 the week before of the virus that causes COVID-19.

New Mexico ranked eighth among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States decreased 7.7% from the week before, with 862,778 cases reported. With 0.63% of the country’s population, New Mexico had 0.79% of the country’s cases in the last week. Across the country, 23 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.

Luna County reported 89 cases and four deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 56 cases and two deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 7,283 cases and 139 deaths.
