Knox County sees 18 more COVID-19 cases, CDC reports Saturday – Knox County VillageSoup


Knox County saw 18 additional COVID-19 cases during the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Saturday, May 7.

The U.S. CDC has recommended that people who live in regions such as Knox County with high case rates should wear masks while at indoor public places.

Since the pandemic began in Maine in March 2020, 6,333 Knox County residents have been diagnosed with the virus, 84 have been admitted to hospitals, and 37 have died.

Statewide an additional 961 cases were reported during the past day. There were nine additional deaths reported statewide May 7, increasing that number to 2,325.

There were five additional people statewide admitted to hospitals in Maine with COVID-19 during the past day, with the number at 4,799 since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The CDC reports 204 Mainers currently in the hospital. This is a jump of more than 100 in the past four weeks and the highest level since February. The peak was 436 in early January. Of the 204 hospitalized, 35 are in critical care units and four on ventilators. Sixty-two critical care beds are available in Maine.
