Over 1,500 people participated in the GEM marathon organised as part of the World Health Day on Sunday.
‘A Run for Healthy Gut’ was held to create awareness on the importance of keeping oneself fit and healthy. The marathon was held for three different categories — 3 km, 5 km and 7 km.
Actor Sarath Kumar, while giving the prize money worth more than ₹1 lakh to the winners, stressed on the need to keep a healthy body by doing exercises regularly.
The marathons were flagged off by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Adyar) P. Mahendran, Association of Indian Universities president G. Thiruvasagam and Managing Director of Star Health and Allied Insurance S. Prakash.
Dr. C. Palanivelu, founder and chairman, GEM Hospitals, spoke on the occasion.
