With the new cases, Delhi’s COVID-19 tally increased to 19,05,512 while the death toll stands at 26,208, the department said in its latest bulletin. A total of 21,816 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the capital the previous day, it said.

Chhattisgarh sees 1 COVID-19 case, no death; active tally now 51
Chhattisgarh on Friday recorded one COVID-19 case, taking the tally to 11,52,418, while the death toll remained unchanged at 14,034, an official said. The lone case, at a positivity rate of 0.03 per cent, was reported in Raipur, while 13 districts have no active case at the moment, he said. The recovery count increased by five to touch 11,38,333, leaving the state with 51 active cases, the official said.

Telangana on Friday recorded 46 new COVID-19 cases taking the statewide tally to 7,93,090. Hyderabad reported the highest number of cases with 35.
Flood situation in Assam improves as water level of most rivers recede
The flood situation in Assam improved considerably on Friday with waters receding in most rivers even as over 5 lakh people continued to suffer in the deluge in ten districts of the state, an official bulletin said. The toll due to flood and landslides remained at 30 with no reports of any death in the last 24 hours, as per the bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Kopili in Morigaon district was the only river flowing above the danger mark, it said.
Singapore reports 3,830 new COVID-19 cases
Singapore reported 3,830 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total tally to 1,290,046. Of the new cases, 418 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 3,412 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health. Among the PCR-confirmed cases, 404 were local transmissions and 14 were imported cases. Among the ART-confirmed cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 3,306 local transmissions and 106 imported cases, respectively.
COVID-19: One new death, 113 fresh cases in Rajasthan
A coronavirus patient died and 113 new cases of the infection were reported in Rajasthan on Friday. With this, the number of coronavirus deaths and cases in the state so far has increased to 9,556 and 12,85,523 respectively, according to an official report. The death was reported in Dausa while 62 new cases were reported from Jaipur, nine from Alwar, eight from Baran, seven from Churu, five from Dholpur, four each from Ajmer and Jhalawar, while Dausa and Jodhpur registered three new infections each.
United Spirits Q4 profit down 12% at Rs 179 crore
Diageo-controlled liquor maker United Spirits Ltd (USL) on Friday reported a 12.14 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 178.6 crore for the fourth quarter ended March as margins were impacted by rising inflation. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 203.3 crore in the year-ago period, according to a regulatory filing. However, its revenue from operations was up 1.16 per cent at Rs 7,767.3 crore during the quarter under review. In the same period a year ago, it stood at Rs 7,678.1 crore.
IISc team develops enhanced data encryption, security device
An Indian Institute of Science team has developed a “record-breaking” true random number generator (TRNG), which can improve data encryption and provide improved security for sensitive digital data such as credit card details, passwords and other personal information. The study describing this device has been published in the journal ‘ACS Nano’, the Bengaluru-based IISc, said in a press release on Friday. “Almost everything we do on the internet is encrypted for security. The strength of this encryption depends on the quality of random number generation,” says Nithin Abraham, a PhD student at the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE), IISc.
Nykaa Q4 profit more than halves to Rs 7.57 cr
FSN E-Commerce, which operates under the Nykaa brand, on Friday reported a decline of about 57 per cent in its consolidated profit to Rs 7.57 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2022. The company had registered a profit of Rs 17.9 crore in the same period a year ago. Revenue from operations of Nykaa increased by 31.4 per cent to Rs 973.32 crore during the reported quarter, from Rs 740.52 crore in the year-ago period.
Mizoram records lowest infant mortality rate in country for second consecutive year
Mizoram has the lowest infant mortality rate (IMR) in the country with three deaths per thousand live births, as per data published by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India. The Northeastern state made the achievement for the second consecutive year, officials in Aizawl said. Nagaland with an IMR of four secured second place, followed by Sikkim and Goa having an IMR of five each, as per the Sample Registration System (SRS) bulletin 2020.
Rupee inches 3 paise higher to 77.58 against US dollar
The rupee inched 3 paise higher to close at 77.58 against US dollar on Friday, supported by positive domestic equities and weakness of the American currency overseas. Forex traders said the rupee consolidated in a narrow range as elevated crude oil prices, fiscal deficit concerns and persistent FII outflows weighed on the local unit. At the interbank forex market, the rupee opened at 77.60 against the greenback and moved in a range of 77.57 to 77.67 in the day’s trade.

NCB seizes narcotics worth Rs 1 cr in Mumbai; one held
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized amphetamine, ecstasy tablets, paper blots of LSD and cocaine worth around Rs 1 crore in recent operations in Mumbai and arrested one person, an official said on Friday. A team from the NCB’s Mumbai zonal unit on Monday seized 970 gm of amphetamine (commercial quantity), valued at Rs 80 lakh, in Andheri (east), a release issued by the probe agency stated.

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd on Friday reported a 29.11 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit at Rs 176.55 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2022. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 249.08 crore in the January-March period a year ago, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd (CGCEL) said in a BSE filing. Revenue from operations rose 1.69 per cent to Rs 1,547.92 crore during the quarter under review as against Rs 1,522.05 crore in the corresponding period of the last fiscal.

Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Ltd (SPIC) has reported a Rs 7.67 crore profit after tax (PAT) for the quarter ending March 31, 2022. The city-based agri-nutrient and fertiliser company registered Rs 42.49 crore as PAT during the corresponding quarter last year. For the year ending March 31, 2022, the PAT grew to Rs 140.43 crore from Rs 51.85 crore last year.

The official requested anonymity until the official announcement.
Power Min modifies norms for pass through of cost of imported coal
The Ministry of Power on Friday said it has modified norms for pass through of higher cost of imported coal used by domestic thermal plants having power supply agreements with discoms under tariff-based bidding. The ministry, in a statement, said domestic coal-based power plants whose tariffs have been determined under Section 63 of the Electricity Act have raised concerns about the pass through of the increased cost in tariff if imported coal is used.
Ramashish Rai appointed RLD’s UP president
Former MLA Ramashish Rai was appointed the president of the Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Uttar Pradesh unit, days after the party’s entire state executive was dissolved following its poor show in the Assembly polls. Future Consumer Q4 net loss widens to Rs 346 cr, revenue dips 32 pc
Future Consumer Ltd (FCL), the food-led FMCG company of debt-ridden Future Group, on Friday reported widening of its net loss to Rs 346.23 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2022. The company, which posted a net loss of Rs 155.12 crore in the January-March quarter a year ago, said due to the impact of COVID-19 and insolvency proceedings against its main customer Future Retail Ltd, there is a material uncertainty over the group’s ability to continue as a going concern. Its revenue from operations was down 32.03 per cent to Rs 262.54 crore during the period under review, as against Rs 386.26 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal, FCL said in a regulatory filing.
PM expresses anguish, says all possible assistance being given to those affected
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed anguish over the road accident in Ladakh in which seven army personnel lost their lives and said all possible assistance is being given to those affected. Seven Army soldiers were killed and 19 others injured in the Tuktuk sector of Ladakh on Friday when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into the Shyok river, Army officials said. The accident took place at around 9 am at a place that is around 25 km from Thoise, they said.

Sebi tweaks cyber security, cyber resilience framework for QRTAs
Capital markets regulator Sebi on Friday tweaked the framework pertaining to cyber security and cyber resilience for Qualified Registrars to an Issue and Share Transfer Agents (QRTAs). QRTAs have been mandated to conduct comprehensive cyber audit at least twice in a financial year, Sebi said in a circular. Also, QTRAs need to submit a declaration from their respective MD/CEO certifying compliance by them with all Sebi guidelines related to cyber security, along with the cyber audit reports.
Hitachi Energy India net profit up 31 pc to Rs 52 cr in March quarter
Hitachi Energy India on Friday posted an over 31 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 51.68 crore for the March quarter, mainly on the back of higher revenues. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 39.44 crore in the quarter ended March 31, 2021, a BSE filing showed. Total income in the quarter under review rose to Rs 1,142.13 crore from Rs 1,023.77 crore in the year-ago period.
TCI Express Q4 net profit dips over 14 pc to Rs 36 crore
Logistics company TCI Express on Friday posted over 14 per cent fall in its net profit at Rs 35.93 crore during the March 2022 quarter. The company had clocked a net profit of Rs 42.57 crore in the same period of FY21, it said in a regulatory filing. Its total income, however, increased to Rs 300.28 crore in the quarter from Rs 282.86 crore in the year-ago period.

Turkey’s foreign minister said Friday that Sweden and Finland must now take “concrete steps” to alleviate his country’s security concerns to overcome Ankara’s objections to their NATO membership bid. Al Jazeera says it will go to ICC over killing of journalist
The Al Jazeera news network says it will submit a case file to the International Criminal Court on the killing of reporter Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot dead earlier this month during an Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank. The Qatar-based network and the Palestinian Authority have accused Israeli soldiers of deliberately killing her. Israel rejects those allegations as a “blatant lie.” It says she was shot during a firefight between soldiers and Palestinian militants, and that only ballistic analysis of the bullet — which is held by the PA — can determine who fired the fatal shot.
UAE, India discuss economic opportunities of energy transition

Army statement: Fatal casualties due to vehicle accident in Turtuk Sector
A party of 26 soldiers was moving from the Transit Camp in Partapur to a forward location in Sub Sector Hanif. At approx 0900h, around 25km from Thoise, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell in Shyok river (to a depth of approx 50-60ft), resulting in injuries to all occupants. All 26 individuals have been evacuated to 403 Field Hospital at Partapur and Surgical teams from Leh have moved to Partapur. Seven individuals have been declared Fatal so far. There are grievous injuries to others as well. Dedicated efforts are underway to ensure that the best medical care is provided to the injured, including requisition of air effort from the Air Force to shift the more serious casualties to Western Command.

COVID-19 cases in Odisha
Odisha’s COVID-19 tally rose to 12,88,410 on Friday as nine more people tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said. The coronavirus death toll remained unchanged at 9,126 as no fresh infection was detected, it said. The state now has 76 active cases, while 12,79,155 people have recovered from the disease thus far, including 12 in the last 24 hours. Fifty-three other coronavirus patients have died due to comorbidities so far.

- Delivery of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine edged lower on Friday morning while flows from Germany to Poland via the Yamal pipeline were also down. Nominations for flows into Slovakia from Ukraine via the Velke Kapusany border point stood at 420,009,181 kilowatt hours per hour (kWh/h), down from 421,945122 kWh/h the previous day, data from the Ukrainian transmission system operator showed. Russian gas producer Gazprom said that its supply of gas to Europe through Ukraine via the Sudzha entry point stood at 43.6 million cubic metres (mcm), slightly down from 44.5 mcm on Thursday.
