How many people are unvaccinated in the UK?
Booster COVID jabs are being rolled out across the UK for
people aged 50 and over or who are clinically vulnerable – but how many people
have yet to have one dose?
According to the latest figures, Just over 27% of the
population is currently estimated to be unvaccinated – the equivalent of 18.4
million people.
Nearly a third (5.7 million) of this total are aged 16 and
over and are therefore eligible to get the vaccine right now.
A further 3.2 million are aged 12 to 15, and have just
started to be offered a first jab.
Here is a breakdown of the number of people who are
unvaccinated across the country complied by the Press Association.
Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland has the highest proportion of people
unvaccinated among the four UK nations.
An estimated 31% of the population has not
received a vaccine, around 588,000 people, although among those aged 16 and over, the proportion is 13%.
England
In England, an estimated 28% of the population is
unvaccinated – the equivalent of around 15.7 million people.
Among those aged 16 and over, the percentage is around one
in nine (11%).
But as with the other UK nations, the level of vaccine
take-up varies greatly across age groups.
Wales
Just under a quarter of the population of Wales (24%) has
not received any COVID jabs – equal to around 773,000 people.
Among those aged 16 and over, the overall proportion is 8%.
Some 30% of 16 and 17-year-olds have yet to have a first
dose – just over 24,000 people.
Scotland
Scotland has given a first dose of vaccine to a higher
percentage of its population than any other UK nation: just over 76%.
It means just under 24% are still unvaccinated, or around
1.3 million people, although this drops to 8% in the over 16s.
