COVID-19 cases in Lane County, statewide spike again


New coronavirus cases increased 5.5% in Oregon in the week ending Sunday as the state added 8,439 cases. The previous week had 8,001 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

Oregon ranked 32nd among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows.

In the latest week, coronavirus cases in the United States decreased 14.2% from the week before, with 781,487 cases reported. With 1.27% of the country’s population, Oregon had 1.08% of the country’s cases in the past week. Across the country, 13 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.

Lane County reported 750 cases and seven deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 715 cases and five deaths. Throughout the pandemic, it has reported 70,218 cases and 595 deaths.​
