MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Centers for Disease Control is warning parents about an increase in Invasive Group A Strep (iGAS) infections among children.
iGAS infections have already caused several deaths among children in the United Kingdom.

The oral form of Amoxicillin, an antibiotic often used to treat iGAS infections, is in short supply. That medication is also used to treat respiratory diseases. With the ongoing spike in flu in RSV cases, it is in high demand.
While there is no vaccine for Strep A, parents are advised to make sure everyone in their household is up to date with flu and chickenpox vaccinations. The CDC says those infections can increase the risk of iGAS infections.
