HARRISBURG – Snyder County is back in the ‘high’ risk’ category for COVID-19 spread.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released their updated COVID-19 spread risk maps Thursday night, designating two regional counties as ‘high’ risk.
Snyder and Mifflin counties join five others in the ‘high’ risk category, including Warren, Elk, Sullivan, Bradford and Susquehanna counties.
The CDC said Snyder County’s ‘high’ risk designation is based on high hospitalization rates and an infection rate of more than 2.6% of the population.
According to the CDC map, hospitalization rates throughout The Valley are about the same, but infection spread rates are much lower in Northumberland (1.17%), Montour (1.7%) and Union (1.25%) counties.
The commonwealth has 27 counties listed in ‘medium’ spread risk and 33 in ‘low’ risk categories.
