INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Countries around the world including Israel, Germany and Canada have been mixing vaccines for months. Results from multiple studies show nearly equivalent immunity to an infection and, in some cases, a stronger response.
WISH-TV Medical Expert and former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams provided News 8 with an update on the CDC’s position.
“We know that people who are immunocompromised have been advised to get a third shot whether you got J&J, Moderna or Pfizer.” he said. “The CDC says if you’re in that immunocompromised category, then you can get a booster with any of the mRNA vaccines. That’s a smaller number of people.”
Aside from this group, Adams says only Pfizer recipients are eligible for boosters. It frustrates him as much as it frustrates those who received Moderna or Johnson and Johnson.
Currently, the CDC stands firm on its position. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is bound by FDA authorizations. However, the agency says it will keep the public informed as more data about the safety and effectiveness of vaccine mixing becomes available.
