(WFXR) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 47 more cases linked to the E. coli outbreak.
The CDC says the strain has infected 84 people from across four states: Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Within those cases, 38 people have been hospitalized with a type of kidney failure known as hemolytic uremic syndrome.
Health officials have not determined the source of the outbreak, but say that many of the people who reported coming down with the illness ate burgers and sandwiches with romaine lettuce at Wendy’s restaurants.
The fast food restaurant chain reported they have removed the lettuce from its sandwiches and burgers in those regions as a precautionary measure, according to the latest report from the CDC.
In the latest report from the CDC:
CDC is not advising that people avoid eating at Wendy’s restaurants or that people stop eating romaine lettuce. At this time, there is no evidence to indicate that romaine lettuce sold in grocery stores, served in other restaurants, or in people’s homes is linked to this outbreak.
