ATLANTA (CBS19 NEWS) — People looking for free N95 masks can use a new online search tool or call for help.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention created the tool to help people looking for this type of mask to reduce the potential transmission of COVID-19.
According to a release, masks and respirators are effective at reducing the transmission of the virus when worn consistently and correctly.
Properly fitting respirators provide the highest level of protection, though all masks and respirators will provide at least some protection for the wearer.
The CDC says that wearing a highly-protective mask or respirator may be most important for certain higher-risk situations or for people who are at increased risk for severe cases of the virus.
The CDC also has a site where people can learn how to properly use an N95 mask.
