496 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths last week in Beaufort County


New coronavirus cases increased 3.5% in South Carolina in the week ending Sunday as the state added 13,918 cases. The previous week had 13,446 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

South Carolina ranked 17th among the states where the coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States decreased 7.7% from the week before, with 862,778 cases reported.

With 1.55% of the country’s population, South Carolina had 1.61% of the country’s cases in the last week. Across the country, 23 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.

Beaufort County reported 496 cases and two deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 394 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 46,997 cases and 386 deaths.
