The CDC has issued a public health alert for a Listeria outbreak linked to several previously-recalled cheeses.
In early October, Old Europe Cheese, Inc. expanded a voluntary recall that included brie and camembert cheeses from several brands that had been sold nationwide and in Mexico for potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, which can be fatal in those with weakened immune systems, including young children and the elderly. It can also cause miscarriage and stillbirth for pregnant women.
On Nov. 1, after six people across six different states fell ill due to the contamination, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a public health alert over the recall.
In reality, they say there are likely more affected individuals that recovered without medical intervention, making it impossible to confirm the full number of those who have gotten sick after eating the recalled products. There have been no deaths linked to the outbreak at this time.
The full list of affected products and retailers can be seen on the CDC’s alert, but includes popular brands like Trader Joe’s, Good & Gather, and Primo Taglio, among several others.

If you purchased products affected by the recall, the CDC advises you to thoroughly clean your refrigerator and any other container or surface they have come into contact with, as Listeria can survive in the cooler temperature and spread to other foods and surfaces.
