The American Medical Association and the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are recommending the flu vaccine for everyone aged six months and up due to an uptick in influenza and respiratory diseases this season. CDC health scientist Dr. Chastity Walker says it’s particularly crucial for people of color to get flu shots. “Those groups are less likely to get flu vaccination. When you have greater risks of being hospitalized, you’re also at greater risk of dying from the disease or having long term sequelae,” says Walker, noting, “everyone who gets the flu is at risk of being hospitalized or dying from the flu.” Details: wabe.org
