Tennessee again reported a modest increase in confirmed statewide COVID-19 infections last week, though case counts dropped in Davidson County, according to the Department of Health.
As of Saturday, the seven-day statewide average of cases was 2,446, compared to the prior week’s average of 2,233. In Davidson County, the seven-day average dropped to 218.7 from 241.6, state data show.
The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 rose sharply last week, from 580 to 666. There were 99 such patients in intensive care units and 30 on ventilators as of a week ago, the last time the department updated its numbers.
Tennessee again reported a modest increase in the percentage of people getting tested for COVID-19 who are positive for it.
Statewide, that percentage was 27.68%, up from 25.1% the previous week. Davidson County’s test-positivity rate also rose slightly — 26.8% as of Saturday, compared to 25.7% the week before.

State public health agencies have counted nearly 2.15 million cases of COVID-19 in Tennessee since the start of the pandemic. Statewide, 26,772 people have died as a result of the novel coronavirus.
Nearly 55% of Tennesseans have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The national average is 67%.
