The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 18 additional COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday morning, although 13 of those were reported after a review of vital records.
The deaths reported Tuesday bring the statewide death toll to 2,400 since the pandemic started in March 2020. Maine CDC spokesperson Robert Long noted that 13 deaths came through a vital records review, while the other five deaths occurred within the last couple of days.
The victims, 11 men and seven women, include seven people 80 or older, eight in their 70s, one in their 60s and two in their 50s. Six of the victims came from Kennebec County, with three from Cumberland County, two each from Penobscot, York and Aroostook counties and one death reported in Franklin, Sagadahoc and Oxford counties.
The number of people hospitalized with COVID fell from 160 Monday morning to 153 on Tuesday. There are 21 people in intensive care and eight patients that require ventilator care.
The Maine CDC also reported an additional 557 new cases of the virus on Tuesday.
