Kidney health: World Kidney Day: Everything you must know about taking care of your kidneys

Diabetes and Blood pressure are the two main causes of Kidney problems. It is therefore vital to follow Blood pressure and Diabetes care methods to ensure Kidney care

Stay Hydrated: Sipping water in between helps to flush out the toxins accumulated in your body and will help your kidneys function properly.

Eat Healthy:
Stay away from anything fried and high on salt. Ensure you also supplement your meals with vitamins and minerals. Control your alcohol as it could lead to a rise in blood pressure

Walk more: A recent study has found that a 15-20 minute walk after every meal is effective in keeping diabetes in check as it reduces one’s blood sugar level over the day. Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs, or walk to places close by, or take your dog for a walk.

Sleep: It is essential to sleep 7-8 hours, or a minimum of 6 hours every night. Studies have shown that people who get less than 6 hours of sleep double their risk of diabetes. Sleeping for less than 5 hours also triples the odds of increased blood pressure.

Keep track of your blood sugar and your blood pressure levels: Check your blood sugar and blood pressure levels and keep a record. Be sure to discuss them with your doctor.

Balance your sugar level: If you have diabetes, both dangerously high blood sugar as well as dangerously low blood sugar – can lead to diabetic coma. It is a condition where you are alive but you cannot respond purposefully to sights, sounds or any other types of stimulation. If left untreated, it can be fatal. The key therefore is to balance your sugar levels.
