AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday that 1,159 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected across the state and that two more Mainers have died after contracting the illness, bringing the statewide death toll so far to 1,824.
The new cases bring the total number of cases in the state since March of 2020 to 185,773. The Maine CDC also reported that there have been 41,247 breakthrough cases as of Friday of last week.
The latest Maine CDC COVID-19 statistics indicate a total of 4,093 Mainers have required hospitalization to treat the virus since March of 2020.
As of Thursday, 308 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 66 were being treated in intensive care units, while 26 people were on ventilators.
Also as of Thursday, 2,505,761 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered around the state. Of those, 956,095 were first doses, 981,309 were final doses, and 568,357 were boosters, the Maine CDC said.
