5 New Jersey counties deemed ‘high risk’ for COVID-19 transmission

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has elevated three new counties to “high risk” status for COVID-19 transmission.

Burlington, Camden and Cumberland counties now join Cape May and Monmouth counties.

The rest of the state, with the exception of Warren County, is under a “substantial risk” category.

Cases of the virus have been on the rise in New Jersey, particularly the delta variant. State health officials reported 1,249 new positive PCR tests on Friday.

There have also been seven new confirmed deaths. Officials say that all of the deaths were people who did not have the COVID-19 vaccine.
