This comes after multiple reports said that Hyderabad-based vaccine manufacturer will hold its pre-submission meeting with the World Health Organization (WHO) next Wednesday, i.e. on 23 June regarding the approval of Covaxin, its India-made Covid-19 vaccine.

The news reports on Bharat Biotech submitting Phase-3 data to WHO is incorrect and lacks any evidence.

Possible third wave in India unlikely to affect children much, says WHO-AIIMS survey

A third possible wave in India by the prevailing COVID-19 virus variant is unlikely to disproportionately affect children than adults, a seroprevalence study conducted by the World Health Organisation and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences has revealed.

The SARS-CoV-2 sero-positivity rate among children was high and were comparable to the adult population in the survey, which conducted in five selected states with a total sample size of 10,000. Data of 4,500 participants were taken for the results of the time of midterm analysis from four states of India and more results are likely to come in the next two to three months, reports ANI.

Kerala logs 12,469 new COVID-19 cases, positivity rate at 10.8%

Kerala recorded 12,469 new cases on Thursday, as the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) came down to 10.85 percent, the lowest in recent months. The toll climbed to 11,743 with 88 more deaths.

While the cumulative cases went up to 27,73,943 with the addition of the fresh cases, 13,614 people were cured of the disease, taking the total recoveries to 26,53,207, the health department said in a press release. As many as 1,08,560 people are undergoing treatment for the infection.

Centre’s welfare measures for children orphaned by Covid ‘defective’: Rajasthan CM

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, while speaking during a video conference on Covid vaccination on Thursday termed the Centre’s welfare measures for children who lost their parents to COVID-19 “defective” and demanded that they be revised as they did not provide immediate relief.

He also claimed the Centre did not announce any scheme to help women whose husbands succumbed to the disease.

COVID-19 origin probe should now shift to US, says Chinese expert

United States should be the priority in the next phase of investigations into the origin of COVID-19, a senior Chinese expert said, citing a study that showed the disease could have been circulating there as early as December 2019, state media said on Thursday.

 Zeng Guang, the chief epidemiologist of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, reportedly told Global Times that the US was slow to test people for Covid-19 at an early stage of the pandemic and it possesses many biological laboratories all around the world.

Third wave may hit Maharashtra as early as 2-4 weeks, say reports

The third wave of COVID-19 pandemic could hit Maharashtra as early as the next two to four weeks if the crowding seen in the last three days continues, a state-appointed task force has warned. As per News18, the task force, however, said children would not be affected as much as those in lower-middle-class clusters that haven’t been exposed to the virus so far.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was informed that a highly virulent strain called ‘Delta plus’ could start the next wave in Maharashtra, reports Business Today.

“The number of active patients could reach up to eight lakh, while 10% out of them could be children,” said the department in a presentation attended by Thackeray, reports Mint. “The Delta plus variant could stoke the third wave in Maharashtra. It could spread at double the rate,” an official told the publication.

AIIMS-Delhi to resume routine inpatient admissions

The AIIMS in New Delhi has decided to resume routine inpatient admissions and elective surgeries at its general and private wards and in all its centres with immediate effect, according to an order by the hospital administration. The order, issued on Wednesday, stated that the decision has been taken in view of a decrease in the need for hospitalisation of COVID-19 patients and also considering the relaxation of the lockdown by the Delhi government.

Delhi was hit badly by a brutal second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, claiming a massive number of lives daily, with the recent oxygen supply shortage issue at various hospitals, adding to the woes.

21.15 lakh domestic air passengers in May, 63% lower than April: DGCA

As per aviation regulator DGCA, about 21.15 lakh domestic passengers travelled by air in May, which is 63 percent lower than the 57.25 lakh who travelled in April.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, 78.22 lakh people travelled within the country by air in March. The drop in domestic air traffic in May was due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that had badly hit the country and its aviation sector.

Delhi reports 10 new deaths in last 24 hours

The national capital has recorded 10 more deaths due to COVID-19 and 158 fresh cases of the disease while the positivity rate has dipped to 0.20 per cent, according to data shared by the health department on Thursday. These 10 fatalities have pushed the death toll in the city to 24,886. The national capital had on April 3 recorded 10 deaths due to COVID-19.
