Tornos News | World Health Organization launches Europe Office for Quality of Health Care in Athens
Athens will be the headquarters of the World Health Organization offices for the Quality of HealthCare and Patient Safety, int.ert.gr reports.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Health, Vassilis Kikilias, and WHO’s Regional Director for Europe, Hans Kluge, after their meeting in Copenhagen.
WHO’s decision, as the Ministry of Health notes, was based on a number of factors, such as the emergence of Greece as a protagonist, as it has shown resilience to the current health challenges brought by the pandemic, the successful implementation of the anti-smoking law but also our country’s special features such as the Mediterranean diet and the record of longevity in some areas, which can be the perfect example for improving the quality of life in Europe.
The new WHO Office will serve the needs of European countries, with special emphasis on providing technical assistance, support, and leadership in the quality of healthcare and patient safety.
The aim of Hans Kluge and Vassilis Kikilias is for the office to be operational in the coming months and for the next five years.
