More than 40K new COVID-19 cases reported in Michigan | News

There were more than 40,000 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Michigan on Friday.

As of Jan. 7, there were a total of 1,636,611 confirmed cases with 27,822 deaths in Michigan.

There were 40,692 new confirmed cases and 259 new deaths since Wednesday. The deaths announced include 136 deaths identified during a vital records review.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. Older adults and people with existing health problems are among those particularly susceptible to more severe illness, including pneumonia. The vast majority of people recover.

As of Dec. 29, the state is reporting 1,284,015 people have recovered.
