As new coronavirus cases surge in Brevard County, Health First officials say supplies are becoming limited for the PCR (swab) testing for the genetic material of the virus currently performed at it's Gateway Drive-Up Testing facility in Melbourne.

New coronavirus cases in Brevard County leapt by 151 on Saturday, according to updated data from the Florida Department of Health. 

Saturday’s new cases were out of 1,944 people tested countywide, making a daily percent positive rate of 7.7% and a cumulative rate of 9.3% since the pandemic began. 

Since the beginning of the novel coronavirus pandemic, 10,954 Florida residents and 54 non-residents have tested positive for the virus in Brevard County.

Only one new death was recorded Saturday when the state reported a 66-year-old man had died. It was unknown if the man had been in contact with another person who tested positive, but officials said his case was not travel-related.
