Arunachal Pradesh’s COVID-19 tally rises to 5,180

  • Arunachal Pradesh’s COVID-19 caseload rose to 5,180 as 180 more people including 11 security personnel and four health care workers have tested positive for the virus, a senior Health department official said on Tuesday.
  • The Capital complex region reported the highest number of new cases at 42, followed by Anjaw (25), Papumpare (15), 14 each in East Siang and Longding, West Siang (12), 11 each in Lohit and Lower Dibang Valley and Changlang (10), State Surveillance Officer, Dr L Jampa, said.
  • Seven cases were also reported from Lower Siang, East Kameng (6), Lower Subansiri (4), three each in West Kameng and Namsai, Tawang (2) and Shi-Yomi (1), the official said.

Uttarakhand: Eight departments including health, agriculture and horticulture at the Uttarakhand Secretariat sealed, after four people including a secretary and a joint secretary tested positive for COVID19.

Telangana Covid update

  • Telangana posted 2,392 fresh coronavirus cases and 11 more deaths, taking the tally of infections to1.45 lakh in the state.
  • Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 304, followed by Rangareddy 191, Karimnagar 157 and Medchal Malkajgiri 132 districts, a government bulletin said on Tuesday, providing data as of 8 pm on September 7.
  • With 11 fatalities, the toll rose to 906, it said.
  • The cumulative recovered cases stood at 1.12 lakh while31,670are under treatment.

Pune: Notice to agency operating jumbo COVID-19 facility

  • The Pune district administration has served notice to an agency operating a newly-created COVID-19 jumbo hospital here for alleged lapses and mismanagement at the facility, an official said.
  • Another agency has now been roped in to improve facilities at the hospital, set up in the premises of the College of Engineering here in Maharashtra, Pune divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao said on Monday.
  • Last week, a news channel journalist died at jumbo medical facility. His family members alleged that he did not get a cardiac ambulance in time.
  • Following his death, there were allegations about mismanagement at the jumbo hospital.

Senior Samajwadi Party leader and Member of Legislative Council SRS Yadav died due to COVID-19 in Lucknow, the party said. The 87-year-old tested positive for COVID-19 on September 1 and breathed his last at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) here on Monday night, SP national spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said.

India on Tuesday reported 1,133 deaths from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, its highest single-day total.

The national capital has reported 2,077 new COVID-19 cases, taking the COVID-19 count to 1,93,526, said the Delhi Health Department on Monday.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected State which on Monday reported 16,429 new COVID-19 cases. The State’s tally of coronavirus infected cases has reached 9,23,641, according to the State Health Department. The total number of cases in the State includes 6,59,322 recoveries and 27,027 deaths while active cases stood at 2,36,934.

  • With nine new COVID-19 cases reported in Mizoram, the total number of coronavirus cases in the State reached 1,123 on Tuesday, according to the State Health Department.
  • The State has not reported any death due to the virus, said the Health Department.
  • There are 391 active cases while 732 patients have been discharged in the state.
  • According to the Ministry of Health, India’s COVID-19 count stands at 42,80,423 including 8,83,697 active cases, 33,23,951 cured/discharged/migrated & 72,775 deaths.

  • The Australian state at the centre of the country’s second wave coronavirus outbreak is deepening its contact tracing programme to try to maintain a steady decline in daily new cases, amid criticism of its handling of the crisis.
  • Victoria state, home to a quarter of Australia’s 25 million population, recorded 55 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to Tuesday morning. That was up from the previous day’s 41 new cases but far below a record daily increase of 725 a month ago.

  • The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 27.2 million, while the deaths have increased to over 891,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
  • As of Tuesday morning, the total number of cases stood at 27,002,224 and the fatalities rose to 882,053, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
  • The US accounted for the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 6,300,431 and 189,206 respectively, according to the CSSE.
  • India is currently in the second place in terms of cases at 4,204,613, while the country’s death toll stood at 71,642.

  • Post Graduate Institute (PGI) Rohtak will start the phase-2 human clinical trial of Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Speaking to ANI, Dr OP Kalra, vice-chancellor, PGI Rohtak said, “We got permission from Bharat Biotech to start a phase-2 human clinical trial of their vaccine. We’ve 300 volunteers, aged between 12 years and 65- years, out of which screening of 15 has been completed.”
  • “We hope to get vaccine dosages by tomorrow morning,” added Kalra.
  • Recently, Niti Aayog member Dr Vinod K Paul said that Bharat Biotech’s vaccine candidate based on inactivated virus procured by ICMR and Zydus Cadila’s candidate based on viral DNA are two Indian COVID-19 vaccines in second phase trial.

  • The first batch of the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19, developed by Russia’s Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) has been released into civil circulation, regional deliveries are planned in the nearest future, the Russian Health Ministry informs.
  • “The first batch of the ‘Gam-COVID-Vac’ [Sputnik V] vaccine for the prevention of the new coronavirus infection, developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health of Russia, has passed the necessary quality tests in the laboratories of Roszdravnadzor [medical device regulator] and has been released into civil circulation,” the ministry said in a statement.
  • The Russian health ministry registered the first vaccine against COVID-19, named Sputnik V, on August 11.
  • Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin expressed hope on Sunday that the majority of the Russian capital’s residents would be vaccinated against the coronavirus within several months.
  • According to the health ministry, the delivery of the first batches of the Russian vaccine to the country’s regions is planned in the nearest future.
