By the end of next year, the World Health Organization (WHO) plans to produce at least two billion individual doses of coronavirus vaccine, provide 245 million treatments, and make 500 million diagnostic tests for low- and middle-income countries. This is reported by the UN news center.

It is noted that the relevant data are indicated in the detailed strategic plan for the development of the ACT Accelerator program, aimed at improving tests for detecting COVID-19, treating infection and developing antiviral vaccines.

WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said during the briefing that the number of countries that have joined COVAX, the global program to create an effective vaccine against Covid-19, is growing every day.

Now 67 high-income and 92 low-income countries have officially joined the initiative. Another 34 countries are expected to sign the agreement in the near future.

As it was reported earlier, nearly a million people have died from Covid-19 worldwide since the disease first appeared in China at the end of last year. There is no vaccine against it yet, but a number of drugs are already in the third (final) phase of clinical trials.
