Issuing a fresh notification on Tuesday, the Gujarat government has made hospitalisation mandatory for coronavirus testing, a move that drew strong opposition from the medical fraternity. The notification came following the Gujarat high court order, directing the government to allow testing of pre-operative patients and give approval to private laboratories for Covid-19 testing for symptomatic people.

US records 15,846 more COVID-19 cases amid rising protests

There are at least 1,827,206 cases of coronavirus in the United States and at least 106,028 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University data. A total of 15,846 new COVID-19 cases and 863 more deaths were reported on Tuesday amid rising protests over George Floyd’s death, CNN reported.

Highest single-day spike of 396 COVID-19 cases in Bengal; 10 more die of disease

West Bengal registered the highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 396 people testing positive for the disease in the last 24 hours, the state health department said. Ten persons died due to the disease since Monday evening, raising the death toll in the state to 263, it said.

Indore reports 27 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths

Indore on Tuesday reported 27 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths, said the district health department. With the new positive cases reported in the district, the total number of positive cases in the state reached 3,597.

The United States continues to lead the world with the most number of overall coronavirus cases, with 2.9 million people contracting the infection and more than 163,000 dying from it.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday said that 6,194,533 people have been infected with the new coronavirus globally. As many as 113,198 numbers of cases were reported in the last 24 hours. Further 4,242 virus-related deaths were reported during the same period, according to the WHO tally.

Brazil registered another record number of novel coronavirus deaths over the last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Tuesday evening, as the pandemic in Latin America’s largest country shows no signs of slowing down. The nation registered 28,936 additional cases of the novel coronavirus, the ministry said, and 1,262 deaths. There are now 555,383 total confirmed coronavirus cases in Brazil and 31,199 coronavirus deaths.
